Hi all,
I am about a year and a half into growing a Japanese black pine from seed.
This years summer in the Uk was very hot and it seemed to be doing well but towards the end the bottom pines started going brown and now Autumn has begun more pines are brown.
If anyone could spare a moment to offer some advise and answer question it would be much appreciated.
- Are the pines turning brown just because it’s Autumn? If not what’s your thoughts?
- It’s currently in the greenhouse with the door open as there’s plenty of rain at the moment, is that an ok setup for the remaining winter?
Any further suggestions in terms of trimming would be great!
Many thanks

That is normal to lose old needles. Leave it where it is but don't let get too dry. It does not need protection, it is hardy

And don't even start to think about pruning. Let it grow and thicken up.
