Hi everyone,
Super new to bonsai and I had someone take care of my tree when I was out of town for about 3 months. I get back and the tree just does not look healthy/looks like a fungus is growing (see images). I'm honestly not too committed to this bonsai, as it's my first one and I got it about 9 months ago so if it's dead I'm not heartbroken, I just want to know what happened and how I can prevent it in the future. If there's a way to save it I'd love to know!
I think the caretaker of the tree was a little too passionate about it and may have overwatered.
It's a Japanese maple, I live in central Texas (Austin area).
