I just noticed some gray around the base of my tree. Any thoughts in what it is and if I need to do anything? See photos. Thank you!

Looks like lime buildup from hard water.

Is that an issue? And how do I solve that? Thanks!

Well, it is first hand a aesthethic issue. You can try gentle brushing it off with a toothbrush. To avoid it going forward you can collect rainwater or use reverse osmosis water for your tree.
