Falling leaves

Hello, I am having troubles identifying what is the problem in this case. This tree is a new member of my collection, but this week it started shedding leaves. What concerns me is that the leaves in the core seem to be yellowing, but the outer ones seem okay and growing. I try to keep the soil moist on the touch, but not overwatered by leaving the upper part dry before watering again. It is localized under south/east window, so it should be getting enough sunlight. Could it have been that it got cold very suddenly, and it spent a couple of nights in temperatures around 14 °C?
Thank you very much for help!

14c is no problem whatsoever. If you are in the northern hemisphere and getting into authum now, 14 c for daytime and slightly lower at night is ideal. Living room conditions seldom work in winter.
The tree looks quite dry. How are you watering it?
