Moss on a bonsai?

I ordered a Chinese Elm sapling online, and the soil was completely covered in moss when I received it. I gently scraped some of it off with a toothbrush after google searching. I kept the rest (probably half-ish) because this seems like a very vague subject, but I wanted to know what people thought. I am keeping it indoors.

Some people like moss some don't. It seems like the people that live in an area which is unsuitable for growing moss is the ones that want ut the most.
It have no benefit for the tree. But no really harm as long as it is not growing up on the trunk.
You do not need to worry about it at all as it will eventually die indoors, just as your chinese elm will.

As far as I can understand, moss is added to soil mixtures and on top of the soil to help keeping the moisture inside it. That's why it came with it, since you received it in the postal service. It seems indeed to be a matter of personal preference and aesthetic, but it is indeed not exactly easy to maintain - not that I had much experience with it, though.
