My Royal Poinciana is turning yellow and losing leaves (AGAIN). was created by TJohn

Hi!

I've been growing this Royal Poinciana from a seed and have had some problems in the past but have made a couple recent changes. Right now it is watered/fertilized appropriately and gets (what I believe to be) an appropriate amount of light through a combination of direct sunlight and artificial LED light as of recently. It has been growing new branches tremendously since I incorporated artificial light and it still does but the branches are dying off one by one working its way up. The branch in the photo went from having a couple dead leaves to being almost completely dead out of the blue when woke up one morning. Could it still not be getting enough light/water or could it be a disease?

Thank you for your time and help!

If it is summer where you are right now, take it outdoors in filltered sunlight. In winter try to keep it cool but frost free. There is nothing that kills as many trees as living room conditions.

Hello!

Ok, first thing, Royal Ponciana is an Deciduous tree, it's late winter here and mine are all 100% leafless and some already started to bud again.

Knowing that, it's quite dangerous and hard to keep a deciduous tree indoors, how would it "know" properly the moment to go dormant, as that depends on light and temperature gradient tru' the year?

Also, and very important, you don't have any branches on that tree yet, that whole structure that comes out from the trunk with a lot of leaflets is a single leaf, and they'll all fall of once the tree go dormant.

Your case may be also be an hydric stress at some point.

But that also can happen normally on a acceptable rate, as the tree grows taller it amputates lower leafs, which also happen when tree begin to slow down to go dormant.

Southern California! Thats like usda zone 10? Your tree should be outdoors all year around.

Do you run aircoditioner in your home? Do you see any relation between time the AC work hard and time your tree is suffering? Trees just hate when the AC dries up the air.

No I rarely run the air-conditioned. The house remains at pretty warm room temperatures for this time of year.
