Japanese Maple assistance

Hello,
I am new to 名媛直播, let alone raising any trees. I had a started with a couple Trident maples, seedlings that were given to me, got them as cuttings. I was able to get them to root, and potted several months ago ultimately, I lost them due to the Vegas heat, (I face the west and forgot to move them in the afternoon).
I am trying again with a Japanese Red Maple. I Just got this guy in the mail 2 days ago. Leaves are pretty dry and had to wire it up because the store I bought it from sent it in a square USPS priority box, so it was pretty much in a circle when I opened the box.
Other than the dry leaves it seems to be pretty healthy, (again novice). What can I do to perk it back up and bring the color back?
Would it be advisable to trim away the dead leaves? Also out of curiosity, If I were to trim the tree at the trunk to shorten it, would I end up killing it? I did not expect it to be this tall. The description of the seedling was “small”, I expected a 6” to 1’ tall plant not 2' 1/2”-3' tall.
Or is this maple a lost cause?

Seadling cuttings, that is a recepie for failure. If you want to grow cuttings, get them from mature trees.
Are there any maples growing in Vegas? If not that may be a hint telling you something.

Thank you for the constructive criticism, I'll keep that in mind when I have a question about cuttings. As far as Maples in Vegas, never looked for them, I'll let you know.

They look dead to me, but they could be alive but will not if you leave them inside. It looks very dry as well

I am not sure what is worse. Indoors or outdoors in Vegas. I assume Las Vegas? I think that is in the middle of the desert. Dry and hot? I would think this tree was doomed the day it was shipped there.
Maples are temperate decidious trees, usda hardiness zone 5-8. Las Vegas is in zone 9. Althou not impossible to grow trees one zone off. But in desert and by a beginner? Sorry, I don't think so.

For now, just let them recover. If you have a space that is protected from scroching wind and sun, that might be a spot, but it will be tricky. Maples really are species for outside. But as you said.. Inside and outside are both killing zones for maples, normally. In your climate, maybe a trident maple could work.
I think I saw your post in the nuthouse too. There are some good comments there..

Thank you for the advice, the red is to far gone for me to save. I’ve reached out to the seller because of the way the tree was packaged, which is why I believe it ultimately was a goner.
I had the Tridents in a portable green house and they were looking beautiful. I ended up forgetting to put them back Before I went to work. Got home and they were fried
