Hi everyone,
I'm writing because my little bonzai does not look healthy at all anymore and I need some help to save him!
Context and environment:
Please tell me what to do (if possible explain the reasoning so that I can learn), I really want to keep my little guy alive and see him healthy again with green branches!
Thanks!
I'm writing because my little bonzai does not look healthy at all anymore and I need some help to save him!
Context and environment:
- Bought it around a year ago at a local shop. It came in the usual small plastic pot already filled with soil for juniper bonzai.
- I never did anything appart from watering it and putting the plastic pot into a ceramic decoration pot (like you can see in the pictures). In other words: never repotted, never fertilized, never cut any branches or anything else.
- I usually water it something like twice a week and would water it heavily under the tap, directed at the soil in order to avoid watering the branches and the trunk. I would always remove it from the ceramic pot to let the water drain for a few hours in the sink before putting it back into the ceramic pot to avoid roots to rot.
- I used to live in an apartment so the bonzai has always stayed indoors in the living room with decent luminosity but with no direct access to the sun.
- I moved a month ago and I now put it in a room with a lot of luminosity and direct sunlight (behind the window) during at least 6-7h a day. The temperature in the room fluctuate between 20-28*C. I now water it once every 2days, the same way I used to in my old apartment.
- I now have a terrasse so I could put it outside all the time with direct sunlight all day long or in the shade, the only thing is that sometimes there's a lot of wind. Also, I live in Montreal, so around October I will have to move it back inside until at least May.
- It has started yellowing a while ago, when I was in my old apartment. I though having direct sunlight would help now but it's not looking better. It looks really dry and like it needs water but I've killed a lot of plants from overwatering in the past so I try to stick to what I read in the past to water once every 2-3 days. There also are some branches that fall from time to time and I don't touch it or trim it from being scared of breaking more branches..
Please tell me what to do (if possible explain the reasoning so that I can learn), I really want to keep my little guy alive and see him healthy again with green branches!
Thanks!

I am sorry to tell you. That is a totally dead juniper. It died because it was kept indoors. There are no cure for death. Next time trying put it outdoors where it belongs.
