I am a complete beginner!
I have had my Chinese Elm for 18 months.
It was indoors, but it was suffering.
I have just moved it outdoors.
I repotted it.
Tried to prune some roots and remove the soil as it was all clumped up in the roots.
I think it wasnt very healthy when I got it and I think I prev overwatered it.
I thought I did a good job. BUT it looks in worse shape than ever!!!
It isnt dead (yet) has its green under the bark.
But the leaves are all floppy and going brown.

Pruning roots and repotting an unhealthy tree will never solve any issues. Most likelly it has been under watered not over watered. You see, it is not possible to water enough indoors without creating a total mess.
Now, what is done is done, there are no way back. So just leave it outdoors, focus on correct watering and hope for the best.

Thanks.
It has never looked mega healthy to be honest.
Is correct watering the only thing I can / should be doing?
I now have it positioned in my garden that gets morning sun ans afternoon shade.

I don't have a Chinese elm, but a carmona, the soil remained slightly damp, no fertilizer and kept in the shade

Did you mean to write "You do not have a chinese elm, but a carmona"? Because that was what I was thinking.
Nope. Nothing else "to do" but be patient. Trees die because of impatience.
