I just started this bonsai thing. I’m just looking for advice or any input. I just repotted and topped this Bosnian pine. I used a three part mix of white pumice, akadama, and some compost from the original pot. I hope I didn’t do too much to it at first. I have some shaping to do but it might be just too much right now. And do I cut the candles soon or wait till next spring?

My advice is if you just repoted, let it recover.

In general, I never wire just repoted trees as wobling it is not good.
When I repot, I do reduce a bit the foliage or do sume pruning to help the tree to keep hidrated (plants do transpire tru' leaves, so if I cut roots, I reduce water absorption).
Sometime is not needed actually, and for pines works a bit different.

But for now, I would say just let it be for now.

I think trying to learn fast is the wrong approach. The most important thing to learn in bonsai is patience and naturally that cannot be rushed.

Its not easy to say what you did wrong as we have no pictures. But a beginner that repot newly purshased pine, removes 1/3 of the root mass and prune at the same time I would consider 3 misstakes. If something went wrong and the tree suffers or dies, you will not know what caused it. Hence cannot learn anything from it. Trees are not digital.

Next time, grow the tree for at least a year before any work. Then if still healthy, do no more than one work per year.

Now, put the tree in shade to recover and focus on watering. Absolutelly no bud pruning.

Auch!! That is severe work. Hope it makes it. Do not even consider any candle pruning this year or next.

on conifers, we only do one thing a year, the repotting was sufficient, with this large size, not sure that it supports
