My maple bonsai is definitely dying. It may be past the point of saving. I don’t know. Does anybody know what I did or what I can do? I’ll add more information as needed. I’m very new to bonsai

A picture might help. Do you grow it indoors?

Beginning to see a pattern emerging here… should be an FAQ. Is your tree struggling? Is it indoors….

Believe it or not. But most of the threads here about dieing trees is about trees indoors. I dont think FAQ would make any big difference to that. If people dont check up about their species care before starting a thread I am sure the same persons would not look for FAQs.

Insted of FAQs, I think people who sell bonsai should just tell people how to take care of the tree! It seems pointless for them to grow bonsai to just allow beginners who don't know what to do, kill them because they were not told what to do. It's funny, some people who see me watering my trees say "Oh, I did not know you needed to water bonsai." There is very little knowledge given to the new bonsai owner I find.

i had small 2-3 year maple seedlings outside that all died. i didn't even do anything wrong.

i didn't realize trees were so temperamental.

The maple tree in my front yard drops a thousand or so seeds a year. If they all grew, I would be in a maple forest. They don't, and usually no more then a dozen actually sprout. Then most of them die. Repeat that story for the pines in the back yard. Most tree seeds don't make it.

Looks like something went wrong when repotting. Did you repot?

SOrry. I do not find them to be temperamentfull. I hardly ever loose a tree, where I cannot tell why. You take a living being out of it natural habit, you need to provide all the critter need. A goldfish in a bowl that does not have the water cleaned and receives no food also dies in a week or two.

You might have vine weevel grubs which feed on the new roots of maples the vine weevel itself is about 5mm with a hard shell which lays its eggs amongst the roots of maples so the have a food source when they hatch in the spring the only way to find out if you have them is to remove all the soil from the roots and look for the little white grubs then wrap the roots in spagnam moss, water it put in a clean pot and leave it to see if it recovers.

Not the nr 1 suspect when it comes to dying trees in my opinion. No single reason to recommend this at this point
