Chinese Elm Problem was created by D0natell0

Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me. I was given a Chinese Elm 名媛直播 tree three months ago as a gift and it looked like the screenshot with the longer branches and paler background. The rest of the images are how it looks now.

It's been three months of watering, a bit of fertiliser, pruning only the offshoots that are coated in brown bark.

But it doesn't seem to be doing very well. The leaves are falling off, especially close to the trunk and some are turning withered, brittle and brown.

Any advice with what I'm doing wrong? Too much water? Not enough water? Too much sun, not enough sun? Nothing I'm doing seems to help.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

You are keeping it indoors. Elms die indoors.

Agree with Topfrog. I have a Chinese Elm I kept indoors and it was consistently on the cusp of dying. Put it outside and its the happiest it's ever been. For reference, I live in the UK so it's been frozen and snowed on and it's late spring now and it's thick with growth. Been a dry spring, so have given it the occasional water, but that's it. Very Hardy.
