I'm rather confused as I have purchased a bonsai tree about a year ago in late June. I've managed to take good care of the tree and it survived winter season with no problems. The tree has maintained all of its leaves throughout the entire winter.
However recently for the past 2 weeks, the tree has begun slowly loosing leaves, (turning yellow and falling off). I keep the tree outdoors, watereing it as usual and it does not appear like there is any pests or infestation.
The tree has also not grown any new leaves since early fall last year.
I assume this is part of its seasonal cycle? Please correct me as I am unsure if this is something I should look deeper into.

All trees shed their leafs. Decidious all at once but evergreens one by one during the season.
Chinese elm is semi decidious. If it did not get enough winter dormancy it will not shed leafs until it is time to grow new ones.
If the tree is healthy you will see a lot of small new buds soon.
