Pumice is not powder it is lumps. Akadama is the best soil. I will never use cat litter, but some do

Not everyone is happy with akadama. People that have hig humidity cold winters seems to dislike it. I am one of them. The only tree still in it is the least healthy one.
I found a procuct of danish burnt clay similar to akadana but harder. The product does not deteriiate as fast as akadama. It is sold as a suck up waste by car mechanics less than 25% the price of akadama. Seems like the best product of burnt clay is the clay has formed in your area of the world.

Around here a good substitute for akadama is expanded shale, from a building material manufacturer just south of here.
I stopped using akadama because it turns into mud over the winter.

The message is to look for locally sourced material. Not to go searching for danish burnt clay. If you are in US that may be just as bad as akadama.
