Hello. from Houston! So, I am new to the world of bonsais, and I am wanting to use an eastern redbud as my first specimen. I plan on growing from seed because of all the trees are finally growing seeds after the winters amazing show. Is it too fast growing to be a bonsai, or does it slow down growth after training. I haven’t heard much about cultivating the redbud as a bonsai. If you have any tips, tricks, or recommendations, please tell me!

I have tried eastern redbud three times, digging them up from the backyard. They never lasted the winter.
Good luck.
You would probably have better luck with a more common beginner tree like a juniper or maple.

You would be better getting a plant of a reasonable size rather than starting with seed. Seed is by far the slowest, and you are looking at 10 to 15 years minimum, that is if the seeds germinate. If they don't you have wasted another year waiting to see if the seeds germinate. Go to a garden centre and find a plant that you can do something with straight away. You can always sow some seed, but not as a first.
