United States, Pacific NW, USDA Zone 8b.
I'm completely new at this and I'm the first to admit I have no idea what I'm doing.
I have a Podocarpus macrophyllus, a (semi-?)tropical mountain conifer. It is a pre-bonsai.
Here are some of my questions:
-Should I have potted it up, or should I be putting it somewhere to get bigger first?
-It's planted in too shallow a pot, isn't it? Do I need to get a deeper one so I can bury the tiny roots?
-How should I train it?
-I am going to attempt to keep it indoors with possible outdoor time in the summer; is this window likely to give it sufficient light?
Thank you for helping a newbie.

The pot is not too small in horticultural aspect. In design aspect it is far to big. But this tree is not ready for final design so pot is good for now.
