I dont know much about USA geografy or climate conditions. But I am quite good at Google. Bryssels is located in Olive Branch, MS. Bright. That is 20 mins from Memphis. Is that much warmer or colder than were you are? They also use a climate controlled greenhouse for their trees. That may suggest that this tree has got its lovest temperature ever in spring after bud break at your place.

The black shrivled leaves are a sign of trouble.

- Did you repot the tree? Roots failing to bring water to the leaves, in combination with wind may cause this
- Has it been cold after leaves appeared? Dips into frost could cause fringes of the leaves to die off
- Does it sit in a humid non-windy area? Fungal infections may cause this
