Hi there, new to bonsais. I have had a little juniper for 2 years but all of a sudden a few branches died back and the growth went pale and crispy. my logic is its over watered. Whats the best technique to recover/ re-pot it. Anything else i can to to help it recover? most of the branches are still green inside so i'm hopeful i can bring it back. i have taken it out of the pot to photo the roots for you poor little thing looks so unhealthy. It has some new shoots popping out but the bottom bark has come off so i'm concerned disease may get in.

It is difficult to tell, but bare rooting or re potting a stressed tree is the last thing you should do. Never bare root a conifer. Get it back into a free draining soil and leave it alone, just water as needed.

Second Geoff. This may prove to be an impossible mission.

Thanks for advice, i'm wishing i knew that earlier now. i suppose should have been common sense in retrospect. i have it potted in some well draining soil and i will leave it be and hope for best. Also he's never kept indoors he survived a tough aussie summer outdoors and i plan to keep him in full sun forever.
