Hey all, so I was given a "bonsai" ficcus from my step mother. I was considering just letting it grow and have a house plant but she gave me this because I expressed some interest. I figure this is a good place to start.
A couple things to start, I live in Canada on the west coast. Vancouver Island to be more precise. However I have only north facing windows. I'm no stranger to indoor growing and was wondering if an indoor grow light (likely LED) would suffice?
I think this ficcus was bought from a retail outlet like Canadian Tire. Seems to me they had a larger ficcus and just cut it than repotted it but I have no idea. It has this rather unsightly Is there anything I can do to make this more appealing to look at? I was hoping to completely get rid of the smaller branch that you see more clearly in this (on the right side). Am I safe to do so? My hopes are to take the bigger branch that already has an interesting shape and continue from there into a sort of 'S' shape.
I'm also wondering if it's okay for me to prune these .
And to help give a bigger picture, here is an album of the tree rotated a few times:

After years of moving the ficus indoors to a south facing window I added a grow light this year. It has done better. There are still the issues of insects and low humidity, but light seems to be better.
One data point.

Ah okay, I'll edit the post. Thanks!
Never mind, editting the orginal post does not seem to be possible.

Yeah I figured it would be no different than my other indoor plants. Thank you!
