Hello everyone, I am bonsai beginner who live in DMV area ( Maryland).I need some help and advice for my bonsai over winter in Maryland. So I have 2 Juniper juniper nada procumbens and Chinese dwarf Elm I bought them last spring 2021. everything is very good during summer. Last fall, around late October, I moved them into my house since fall and winter in Maryland is very cold. My plants actually doing okay. The leaf is still green, just little hard.and now early spring, march 2022, I have been waiting for the temperature to warm up a little bit ( I am aiming for around 50F ). But recently it is still so cold ( below 40F).I don't know what to do? should I keep them inside and next to the window full of sunlight? and then put them outside when the it is not too cold outside? I am not sure if my plant are still in dormancy, and will it stress out if I just put them outside immediately ? I think my plants right now is under a lot of stress. .additional notes: during winter, I put my plants in my house garage which temperature ~ 60 deg.I am happy to have someones give me some tip on how to winter care for juniper in Maryland.THANKS!

The absolute best answer is to find a bonsai group in your area and see what they do. The ones who have been doing bonsai for years have figured out what works for specific species in your climate. Somebody from Sweden, New York, Alabama, or New Zealand can tell you what works there but can only tell you generalities about your area.

I second Ivan. Maryland is according to Google in usda zone 5b to 8a. That is a big spread. And we dont know how cold "pretty cold" is to you. So we cannot even give general advices.
I am in usda zone 7 and keeps my trees in unheated greenhouse in winter. Last winter was 6 weeks in a row below -10c with a low at -16c.

I have the same issues with mine. Maryland is really annoying with the range of growing zones. I'm just on the edge of zones 7b and 8a so it can get annoying. Happy to talk further about ideas!

Junipers needs to be outdoors all winter. They do perfectly fine in zone 7-8.
