We're about to plant some green giant arborvitae to create a privacy screen between my side yard and my neighbor's garage. I keep reading you can shape them into a hedge but I'm not seeing pictures of anyone having done that. These are going near a row of white pines that lost all their lower branches (hence the privacy issue) and I don't want them to compete with the pines but they're going to be pretty close to them.
It's a 32 foot long span where I really need to fill in so I bought 6 planning to plant them 5 feet part. Should I plant this many? Is shaping them going to be possible? Any advice would help. We need privacy badly and asap but I don't want to regret this in a decade.
