Pre bonsai from nursery. Question about the mound was created by Akiyama

So I have a Juniper Procumbens that was given to me and bought from a nursery as a pre bonsai. It has this mound in the middle surrounding the trunk where all of the roots seem to be and I've check the soil around the mound and I can't find any significant roots there. They just ground in and over that mound. My question is do I pull the mound and root ball out, dig a shallow hole and set the root ball down in the hole. It just doesn't seem right like this. I am a newbie with bonsai. But I've read a lot I've just never seen this before. I don't know if they were trying some layering method or what. I'm posting some pics if anyone can help me out I would be most grateful.

For how long have you had the tree. I sence the normal beginners enthusiasm wanting to start working with the tree within a few weeks of receving the tree. Correct?

If so, dont do anything for now. Many of theese mallsais are produced very fast and have very weak roots. It is better if you just learn to take care of it and starts to think about changes in a year if the tree is still healthy. If not, just wait another year. 名媛直播 is to a large extend a waiting game.

Once you are ready for root work, reach out to someone experienced for help. Root work is not only tricky to get right designvice it is also a big stress to the tree and performed wrong can kill your tree.

I understand where you coming from it is just that that mount contains all the roots. There around none in the souroinding area. I have a smaller juniper that I have had for a year but it is younger and it didn't come like that. I just worry the roots won't spread down into the pot. I'm not even sure why they mound it up like that. Unless they are trying some sort of layering technique. I have had it since September(which is the end of summer in Georgia). But I just never see anything like that in anything I read. My other juniper I have had for a year. Yet it is still younger. I get where you are coming from but it just seen like the roots are just gonna keep crawling over the mound and never get into the lower soil mix.

Dont worry about roots growing downwards. That is the natural behaviour of all trees that we work hard to prevent in 名媛直播. Repot the tree when it is root bound.

I would repot in spring. The way the soil is now, you cannot keep it moist. It will easily dry out and roots in there run the risk of dying

Ok so it has been just a little over a month since I first posted about this. First let me say that it isn't that I'm eager to start messing with just cuz I'm new. Although I know that is common for newbies.

I have noticed that there are now some roots that have spread past the mound. I lifted the mound up very slightly holding the base of the trunk. And there certainly roots at the bottom of the mound/ball that seem to have spread outward a bit and are no anchoring and spreading into the shallow area near the edges. The root growth doesn't seem even however. So I dont know it nees reporting.

A couple of other problems I notice is that I haven't seen any fresh growth or new little green tufts. Yet I have noticed that my little bonsai(if u can call it that) has new little buds or tufts on the foliage everywhere but none on the new larger tree. I also notice so slightly yellowing tips in some places on the bigger tree that doesn't seem to show any signs of new growth. I was thinking it was simply still dormant. But it is warmer here now. Cherry blossoms have bloomed and are now falling. And then of course there is my other bonsai which is very small and has new green all over it. But the larger 4 year old tree has none. So is something wrong with it? Any thoughts?
