Hi friends ~
My Redwoods just got delivered to me 2 days ago on 2-18-22. They are in shock of course but I'm wondering how soon can I start taking twigs off that I do not want. I don't want to prune, just rid the unnecessary. Will this hurt the tree this early into receiving them? I am most likely going to wait until I see growth appearing cause I honestly have no idea if they even survived the trip (looks like they did but I just want to be sure.)
My other question is how long until I can repot them. I know it's gonna be a while and their roots are probably not too thick in there but the orientation they are in and the soil they are in, do not look the best
Thank you so much for the help!

I am from Northern California! My particular tree is a California Dawn as you probably know...

I never do any work on my trees until after a full growing season has passed. So if I got a tree now, I would not work on it until earliest late winter 2023. But only if the tree have shown good growth last season. If not, I just wait another year or two.

I appreciate that a ton. My thoughts were to get rid of all the stuff that clutter an soaks energy. I will definitely wait though.

Everything that grows on a tree helps it to store energy, mature and increase trunk size. There are no wasted energy in bonsai.
