Hi all!
I'm new to this wonderful world of bonsai, always wanted to start but never really taken the step. I've finally started with planting some seeds (yes i know they will take a long time to grow) and I really look forward to all of this.
So I have a ficus that's been sitting around for a while and now i realize that they are perfect for bonsai. So I'm thinking that I will start with wiring up the trunk the way I want it, but I'm not sure about the rest.
Do you think that I should wait with the pruning a while longer and like let it grow "fully" or should I start now?
As I said I'm totally new to this, just been googling and looking at videos and then I found this wonderful little website and thought I could ask you guys.
I've attached a photo for you of my little buddy it's about 4 years old.
Thanks in advance and good luck to all of you!

If you have alot of space, i would go for a bigger bonsai. Because of this ficus species has fairly big leaves compaired to other ficuses.
That would mean let it grow out more. For 4years it is quite small. I have the same specices at home, that i grow from 10cm cuttings taken 18months ago.
I keep them as a house plant for now, as the trunks are not fat enough yet. There at least 70cm high now. and almost 1cm diameter of trunk.
To grow them better/healtyer/bigger, you place them outside in spring when temps at night don't go under 12/15c. And bring them back indoors in fall when temps are dropping again.

Sounds good.
Ye I was thinking about getting another one, just don't know what yet and since I'm new I just thought that I would start with this.
I actually have another that has grown way more and about same age. Guess that's the beauty of it, everyone is different.
Will try the outside thing more around the summer tho cause its pretty could up here (Sweden) and will definitely look for another plant when I'm a bit more invested.
