Hi, I recently bought a bonsai - which I believe is an olive tree - for the first time and when I bought the tree the leaves were bright green but they have now gone dark and crispy. The tree is still alive - I peeled back some of the bark and its still green underneath - but I'm not sure what to do about the leaves. Any advice on how this has happened would be really helpful -i'm a complete beginner so any help at all would be really appreciated. I have attached pictures of the tree when I bought it and what it looks like now below.

Well, it looks like it is falling out of the pot. You also have it inside which is the main problem. Trees need light and houses are too dark for the majority of plants. Olives are quite hardy,, mine are outside sheltered all winter. I would try to firm it into the pot as it does not look good like that. Some roots are hanging out of the pot as well, I am not sure what has happened there but you need to try to gently tuck them under the soil. The wire is doing nothing take it off.

Loking at the way the trunk is wrinkled, it is 99% percent gone. Lower trunk might have some living sections, but I doubt it.
Dried out, and the was re-watered I suspect. Or taking inside and put in a window over a heater, would be my next.
SOrry.

1st thing you need to do is put it outside, I doubt you will be able to bring it back, maybye if your lucky.

lost to be lost if I can say its like his, transplanted it into a pot a little larger by adding soil below the root ball and all in turn by tamping a can, well watered and placed it outside or freezes, cut all the leaves which are dry and crossed the fingers so that it leaves again, it seems to me that it is an ilex crenata !!!!
