are these plants as good as dead in this case or do they have a chance if i thaw it out inside?

this is really annoying. I might just leave them inside until the end of January. any advice?

Depends on the plants you got? Can you name them for us.
Also your location and temperature would be handy. Because it makes a difrence if it freezes -1 or -40

jap. maple and chinese juniper in small pots. I think it went around -4 last night.

Not sure about the juniper, (although I have full sized juniper) but I have red Japanese maple seedlings I keep in an unheated shed. They have been frozen solid at -10 Celsius for a week or more.

The juniper have no problem eigther way. Do not bring it inside.

The maple will have problem if we are talking F here. Put it in a well protected place with somewhat milder temperature. An unheated greenhouse, coldframe or just a shed will do. If you have a lot of snow where you are you can just burry it in snow, its really good isolation. Do not bring it indoors!

No problem whatsoever. Both of them well-frost hardy. Just keep them out of wind & sun when fully frozen. Do NOT keep them in a warm room.

-4 Fahrenheit could be a problem for a potted japanese maple. That is like -20 celsius.

guess i misinterpreted something i read.

I thought it might be a problem but i guess it is not. I'm talking celsius.

That will actually be a problem for me because it will go down past -20 where I live, and my Japanese Maples will feel that. What should I do?

Last winter my japanese maple took 6 weeks of constant deep frost. Lowest temperature -16c. But I must admit I was a little bit worried then. However no problem.
