Hi, I'm new to the bonsai life. Someone gifted me this beauty which I'm trying to keep happy. The tree arrived a year ago wonderfully covered in moss. As you can see, this is no longer the case. I'm not sure if i need to be concerned with the current exposure. The weather at the moment is around 20 deg Celsius daily, heading into summer. I'm watering thoroughly about every 3 days. Help!

need to see the tree. I would say that watering that infrequently is probably not enough. When the temps are that high I am watering every day, any higher and it could be twice. But you must not water to a schedule, check every day and water when the surface is almost dry. I am sure that you have it in a sunny position in your garden, they like plenty of sun. If it gets very hot then some shade in the afternoon will be beneficial. Show us the tree

Those exposed roots are not an issue for the health of the tree. However, I would say its a design issue. Nothing to do about it until you have solved the health issue which is most likelly due to under watering.

I agree, that is the probable cause of leaf loss. Is it loose in the pot? What is the tape and stake for? That is not good, the tree should stand up on its own
