Hi,
A while ago i had a bonsai tree what died, i took the old tree out and left the pot on my balcony. After a while a seed from the tree in front of my house fell in to the pot and now started growing. I don't know if it is suitable as a bonsai tree but it is growing for a while now.
I have a few questions about this tree:
- What kind of tree is it? I don't know the name but it looks like a kind of maple tree but i am not sure.
- Is it growing good? I have it inside now because temperature is getting below 0 here. (It is in a room with constant temperature between 15-19 degrees and 60% humidity and no heating on)
- Is it suitable for bonsai? And if yes how long do i need to let it grow before i can start adjusting it?
Thanks alot for the answers! All tips are welcome
Kind regards,
Robbert

It is not bonsai. It looks like a Maple of some sort, and must be outside

It is a japanese maple.
It is a plant from a temperate climate. Not a puppy. Put it outside.

Yes it is a suitable species, it will take a few years, maybe next year you can give it a trunk movement.

Thanks for the tip, if i google on this tree i see it needs protection from frost.
Temperatures at the moment drop below -5 at night and there is frost on the ground/car windows etc. Does it still need to be outside?
I don't have the possibility to put it in the ground because i live on the 1st floor with no garden.

My japanese maples endured -15 last winter without any problems.
Note that frost hardiness comes over 4-8 weeks of cooling. Now moving it into frost is an issue
