Hello, I have a juniper with a nice deadwood. Recently I noticed that the foliage starts to turn yellow on one side but the other side seems fine. Any ideas what was the issue and whether it can still survive? There are some new shoots too.

There can be 100s or 1000s different reasons for juniper yellowing. To tell the cause without knowing anything about your climate and care is just impossible. However the most common cause is indoor growing. If you are one of them trying to grow indoors, just move it outdoors.
Junipers turns yellow long after they died. The rest of the tree is still possible to save, but that bransch is dead and cannot be saved.

Hi, thanks for this. I got this from another person. According to the previous owner, he has been growing it outdoors and doesn't seem to be water issue. I'm in Melbourne Australia by the way. I suspect it's spider mites. Now I have just pass it to a bonsai nursery to repot and fix the branches. The guy said it's still alive and will grow back but wouldn't know the exact issue until he repotted it. But I still wanted to know more about this issue as a learning experience for myself.

It looks like the yellow branches were cut short. Trimming short can be part of the problem.
