Hi,
So I got a large fig bonsai plant as a present in June and now it looks like it’s dying. what up am I doing wrong? as all the leaves have fallen off. It’s left just twigs. Should I cut these off? Also there are a few white pests on the bark and leaves, I’ve Googled it and it says they are not harmful

Share a picture?
My guess would be too dry, or spider mites.

Ikea?
Is the photo taken where you normally keep it? Looks like it does not get enough sun.

They move right? Looks like spider mites, I had this case on a Ficus once, used Bifenthrin solution, it was very effective...
But I don't know if the spider mites were the cause, surelly they don't help...

Put the tree as close to a southern facing window as possible. If there are a heater below the window, turn it off.
If there are spider mites there are webbing, so look for webbs carefully. Do not treat unless sure about infection. I like to use spider mite predators instead of chemical treatments.
No matter above, the tree will shed leefs in winter If kept in living room conditions. Winter indoors in temperate climats is not optimal conditions. Too little light/too warm and far too low humidity.
Btw: ikea in my country does not call that product bonsai. That is a good choice since most people that are into bonsai dont do it. Dont despair, all trees can be turned into bonsai given time.

I think if you can introduce natural predators, it's always better, and might be easier if you have a bunch of plants...
But where I live I don't have that option unfortunatelly...
And just to add I never had issues on any plants using Bifenthrin according to the instructions. (Thank god )

Bifenthrin takes very long time to break down and will eventually end up in natural waters were it is very harmful to aquatic life.
That is why it is banned from all outdoor use in EU. It is still legal to use highly diluted in greenhouse production but no longer awailable to end users. There are a proposition to ban it entirely in all of EU. In my country that has allready been done.
For humans it is concidered higly cancerogetic.
