Help! My son bought me a Chinese Elm in June was doing great! Lots of new growth . Now it is October in Virginia and it has developed a patch of brown leaves and the are dropping. I had inside until yesterday when I decided to move it out due to the brown leaves. To see if the sunlight and rain would help . I have attached some pics! What's going on?

thanks!

That's strange: it's oktober here in Belgium too...
Keeping a tree inside is always a recipe for a weakening/dead tree. In short: there is no such thing as an indoor tree.
But without a picture it's really hard to say anything really

Lol! I guess it is October everywhere! I appreciate your response. I have attached pics here again. And I did put my tree out 2 days ago. Now I'm worried when it gets cold.

Strange: you put your tree in a lethal environment ( inside) and don't worry. you place it outside where it will thrive and where it belongs and you worry. Do not antropomorfize your tree. It's a tree, not a human that needs warmth.
On the other hand: your tree is under stress from being inside. As long as temps are not below zero, keep it outside. If it freezes, place it in an unheated frostfree garden shed or room/garage. DO NOT bring it inside in a heated room.

I keep my Chinese elm inside under grow lights. I live in South Carolina. I had the same issue with leaves turning yellow/brown. I didn’t realize how often it needed attention. I started pruning it frequently and watering it more frequently (every 3-4 days) and noticed an incredible difference. Prune it often. Let 7-8 leaves grow to a shoot and prune the shoot back to 3-4.

Prunning does not automatically cure yellowing leafs. Its an act of styling not an act for health.
