I missed watering my second year maple for a few days and all the leaves dried out and turned crunchy. It's still alive but I was wondering if I should put it in our walk in cooler (40f-50f) and make it go dormant a month early sense I was going to put it outside next week anyway?

…. You are keeping your maple inside and want to place it in a cooler to make it go dormant?
Without a picture it’s hard to say anything but trees die inside, there is no such thing as an indoor tree.

Not many have walk in coolers awailable. That is not a standard equipment in the bonsai toolbox.
But, why not try? There is a chanse you learn something and the only thing you risk to lose is a 2 year old tree.

I keep it in the window next to my computer spring and summer because I see it and remember to water it (most of the time) but in the fall I move it to the porch so it can loose its leaves and enter a dormant cycle which I have read is important for maples to have. I guess I will try the cooler tomorrow unless some one says I should do otherwise. Thanks for the input I just needed to hear that I wasn't totally crazy for thinking of the walk in.

The tree would be better of outdoors at all time. The dry indoor air may be the reason for the wilted leafs. Or warering the wrong way. Watering the correct way is not possible indoors without moving the tree every time (or creating a mess on the floor).

Defiantly watering as I forgot to do that for 3 days and its is in a 3 oz container.
I was just asking to see if anyone had tried to start an early dormancy by putting a maple in a fridge because I don't want it to wast the energy growing new leaves gust to loose them in a few weeks.
As far as the picture I couldn't find the cord for my phone to download to computer at the time of posting

Sorry for the long delay. Life had me busy. For anyone who was wondering the cooler worked perfectly to put it into a dormant cycle. I left it in there till the maples outside lost there leaves then transferred it to my porch. in the spring the leaves came back and the it has made a full recovery.
