Ilex crenata yellowing and dropping of leaves was created by Marx

Hi there
I’m new to bonsai ownership and my ilex crenata has started to develop yellow leaves and dropping them. It lives outside and I have been watering whenever the soil starts to feel slightly dry.
I would really like some advice as I don’t want to lose this little guy.
Is there a fertiliser I should be using?
The roots seem to be ok but I think could do with repotting next season.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Ilex crenata should not be getting yellow leaves except for here and there an odd one due to age. Do not fertilize, as this more often than not, makes the situation worse.

Please share a picture, also of the substrate in the pot, and where you are keeping it.

Thanks for the swift replies. I have attached a picture as requested, the substrate is mainly a normal looking soil with what looks like a light mix layer on top.
Hope this helps
