I'm a beginner at bonsais and I was given my bonsai on my birthday June 2021.

I'm from Gibraltar (Europe), therefore, currently it is summer here.

The tree is healthy and is growing very well.. I have seen lots of new leaves and doing very well.

I position it on a window sill with hardly any direct sunlight and feed it Baby Bio House plant food every other week. Also, I water it only when it gets slightly dry (as per instructions).

I haven't pruned the bonsai and don't dare to do so because it is growing so healthily. I have seen new leaves growing and also I spotted white flowers.

However, the leaves look quite large.. although perhaps it's something normal. I don't have any previous experience with bonsais, so perhaps the leaves are normally sized, although I do prefer smaller sized leaves for a more realistic look.

I have also identified that on average, per branch, there are more than 4 leaves.

Should I have to trim/ defoliate/ partial defoliate?

If so, when should this be done in the year?

Note that I have attached an image of my bonsai as it currently is for reference.

Grateful for your views on this one.

Thanks.

There are no need of any trimming or defoliation. First year just learn how to care for the tree. That can prove hard enough allready for carmona.
