Hello everyone,
I just received my first chinese elm bonsai tree yesterday in the mail (medium size about 10-12 inches tall) and was planning on having it out on my sunny patio (it is between 80-90 degrees farenheight here and gets a lot of sun. The guidebook from the nursery I got it from said I should leave it in a shady spot outside for the first week to let it acclimate before putting it in the sun. Is this true? Also from the pictures it already seems quite big and wasn't sure whether it should be pruned yet or not but I was going to wait at least a month before messing around with it to let it acclimate.
Thanks!

If the tree has been in a shaded position prior to shipping it is a good advice to start in shade and gradually get it used to sun. One week sounds a little short thou.

No need for any trimming at this point.

The nursery gave yuo good advice. If, after doing what they suggest, you want eventually put it in full sun, you can. But then you might want to leave it in the "morning or afternoon sun spot" for another 1-2 weeks before moving to full sun. Sunburn is real for trees too!

If it is happy and growing, just let it go for now as it settles in.
