Hi, as the title says I've got a bonsai plant that used to belong to my father and I'd like to look after it and help it to thrive if at all possible, the only problem is I have no idea what type it is even after looking at the guide on this side. I'm from the UK and it's a UK-based plant as far as I'm aware. I'm unsure whether it's deciduous or evergreen, as it lost a lot of foliage last winter but no idea if that was just due to the heavy frost. Any help would be hugely appreciated as I'm very new to this.

I dont think its crassula. Too small leafs to be crassula. Maybe portulacaria. But if its been in heavy frost and still are alive its another story. Both species die instantly in frost.

No succulents are decidious. But lack of light can make them drop leafs in winter.

For perfect identification please consider asking the same question on a cactii and succulent forum. Frost hardy succulents is quite odd.

Do a comparison with Crassula sarcocaulis to see for yourself.

I think you nailed it lb! Frost hardy crassula was totally new to me. Need to read up on that species. Looks wonderful.

It is very similar to my frost-hardy semi-deciduous crassula, but the leaves on yours are slightly larger it seems.

Do a comparison with Crassula sarcocaulis to see for yourself.

Min gets full sun. Water wil all my trees. In winter a little shelter against wind/rain.

Perfect I'll give that a go. I've read on other sites that they can be kept indoors too but unsure about that yet, this house is a bit awkward for finding a place where enough light will get to it.

No tree do better indoors than outdoors. Just let it be outside. Protect it from excess rain and prolonged deep frost during winter. A cold frame, greenhouse or even unheated shed will do.
