Please Help My Chinese Oak was created by mariobiondi

I was gifted this tree last december. Surprisingly it strived indoors in the winter, I suspect because of the heating.
When spring started to come around it started to suffer, as if it mistook winter for summer and spring for autumn (as it was exposed to higher temperatures in the winter rather than spring).
I started exposing it to the sunshine in the morning (something I hadn't done previously) and it seem to suffer even more (as if leaves were getting burned) so I stopped.
Another thing I have noticed is that the lower portion of the trunk has coloured darker as shown in one of the pictures as if the water soaked that portion.
Now it has lost almost all its leaves. I'm wondering if it has a chance of survival or it's done.
I'm planning to repot it as a last ditch effort.

Let me know what I should do!
Thanks.

This Chinese Elm not oak, is in a bad way, do not re pot it, that will finish it off. Get it outside trees die inside as you are finding out. Prune all the dead bits off. It also looks dry, watering has to be regular and when needed, when the soil is almost dry. Depending on where you are in the world and if the weather is hot and sunny it will need some shade in the transition from dark to light.

Sorry, yes I meant Elm. I do water it though! It still dries up. I don't know why.
Also I forgot to mention, the leaves it lost are mostly from the "front", meaning the side I exposed to the sun. The leaves at the back are the survivors.

Have you tried to saturate the soil with water? This organic compost stuff has a hard time taking up water when really dry. Putting it in a sink with water for 10 minutes, or generously watering with LUKEwarm water can make a big difference in how much water is taken up.

Once the soil is rehydrated, water as normal (Which means, water plentifull when soil starts to dry out, not with small sips once a day)

I will try all your suggestions thank you. I have trimmed the dead stuff away and put it outside so far. Tomorrow I'll water it more. I was worried I was watering it too much and it was dying because of that.
The soil dries up every 4-5 days, that's when I water it, which is also what I found online. You mention to water it daily. How do I know if I'm over doing it?
Maybe now that I've put it outside it will dry up quicker?
Anyway when I cut some of the branches, the inside was still green, so I think there is still hope.

Thanks
