trying to grow Willow 名媛直播 cuttings? was created by Skitty2535

(I apologize in advance that this post will be long! This is my first time attempting to grow bonsai) I purchased 3 cuttings of willow bonsai (the first photo below) then watched a TON of YouTube videos/did a ton of online research on propagation of the cuttings and actually planting/ growing them and pretty much everything I came across said to just leave them alone, in only water, to root. And to leave them there for several weeks (like 4-6 weeks!! Which seems like a long time to me??) anyways it has been almost 4 weeks, and I believe they are dead. I did email the company and sent photos and they suggested I cut the dark portion of the wood stalks off, soak the cuttings in one part peroxide, one part water, for several hours, and then replace in new/clean containers of water, which I did, about a week ago. However, I am pretty sure I’m going to have to just throw them away sadly :( I emailed the company again and was sent 3 new cuttings, free of charge (2nd photo below) which look very green/healthy/have lots of root buds. So I really do not want to make the same mistakes with these again! I am unclear on if the entire cutting should be emerged completely in water?? The instruction sheet I received said to “place them in a container filled 2 inches with water” and place them root side down (the end that was covered in wet paper towels when I received them in the mail) 2 of the 3 first cuttings I received did begin growing lots of white/healthy looking roots at the bottom. However now they have turned slimes, brownish and definitely “limp/dead” and the sticks themselves are mostly brownish-yellow (also pretty sure dead!) Did I keep them in only water for too long?? I also saw online, to use “tap” water, not distilled or bottled, but living out in the country, with well water, I have pretty hard/mineral filled water, so could that have killed them? Did I not change the water often enough and they molded? (It’s been VERY hot/humid here lately) and should I completely submerge these (new) cuttings in water until I see roots or stick with only keeping the bottom few inches submerged in water? Should I immediately plant them in the soil once roots begin to grow? And are the little white “bud” spots where the roots grow from? Or are those spots for eventual leaves? I am also confused if these cuttings are to be placed half way covered in soil when I plant them in a pot? Or less? How much should be sticking out of the soil? (I apologize for all the questions, as I stated before this is my first ever attempt at growing bonsai, I am normally a carnivorous plant enthusiast. but I hugely appreciate any tips/help that anyone can provide me!!! Thank you!

This seems a very expensive way of getting Willow plants. I doubt they will be any good you should buy plants with roots and in a pot rather than these. The people selling this kind of stuff are not selling quality plants and I would not buy anything from them. Go to a garden centre and see the plants you are buying or deal with a reputable company not this one

I actually didn’t pay anyone for these. so not very expensive as it was free. and I do not live near any garden center that would have anything near bonsai and this is not helpful/doesn’t answer anything I asked. But thanks for your opinion. I am growing several bonsai and also making my own cuttings, so obviously I’d like to know what (if anything) I did wrong with these cuttings, so I do not do it again/misinform other people.

Ok, well, they need to be in water or soil and left alone to root. Put them in 2cm of water in a jar or plant in soil either way will work, then wait it will be anything from 4 to 8 weeks for enough roots to be able to pot up. You are not growing bonsai, you are growing plants. 名媛直播 are created not grown, it will be some years before you have any bonsai from cuttings.

If you want you can just stick them into soil directly and keep that moist.
And do you submerge the entire sticks? Only half or less should be in water.
The sticks has a bottom and a top. So put them in soil/water accordingly.
