Japanese bonsai indoors tips

Hello guys, I’m new in the bonsai world, Im living in the UK and currently own a Chinese elm, Ficus and Japanese Maple bonsai. I keep them all indoors, I have some questions about my Acer since I’ve read many different information about keeping it indoors and how impossible this task is and at the same time others saying it can be done and etc… So far it looks pretty healthy to me but I’d like to know if my bonsai will keep on doing well or has an “expiration date” living indoors and how can I identify when it’s time to say goodbye and move it outside for good as last resort before I kill it, basically. All started one year ago when I saw an “ugly” Acer seedling on clearance sale in the supermarket and decided to bring it home. I gave it a new pot and fertilized soil, some pruning and very basic care, by that time I had no idea how to take care of an Acer and since it was dying in the supermarket and was very cheap I wanted to give a go. It grew really well during summer and in the fall I placed it outside for the dormant period as I previously read online that it needed. In March I brought it inside again and here we are, the tree looks super fine to me, it sits right bellow a skylight and gets plenty of light, I try to keep it moist and the windows are always open, I wonder if I can keep this routine for the next years or my tree will slowly die for being kept inside during spring/summer? I love to look at it while I’m at home since I don’t go often to the garden, but I don’t want to kill it and I’d rather do something before that if necessary. Thank for the attention!

You cannot keep these trees inside. They will not survive for long. Get them outside where they belong. They are not getting anywhere near enough light as can be seen by the length of the internodes and leaves.

As long as it gets the proper dormancy every year it should survive. But bare survival is just not enough for bonsai, you need a tree that thrives to make a bonsai. Put it outside. The same goes for chinese elm.
The ficus is best kept outside in summer and protected from temperature below 10c in winter.

Hmm, for me it looks like it's missing something... see the overall yellowing of the leaves...Joaocunhaa wrote: , the tree looks super fine to me

Lack of light is the cause, it is not fine it is stressed and only just surviving.
