Hi!
We bought a Serissa Foetida / Snow Rose bonsai about 5 weeks ago in a local nursery. I wonder if you can give me advice on how to care for it and when and how much to trim it. I have attached pictures with a measure behind the tree. It did lose quite a few leaves in the first two weeks, I read about that Serissa 名媛直播s are quite fussy when it comes to changing location. There are new leaves though throughout the tree, some of them are growing fast with big leaves. I’m watering now every other day, and I applied Perfect Plants 18-6-8 名媛直播 fertilizer from Amazon three weeks ago. The tree is close to our patio door with indirect sunlight.I’d love to get into 名媛直播 care much more, this tree is great with its little blooms. Any tips are welcome.
My immediate questions:
  • When and how much should I trim it? What should I do with those new shoots with big leaves, trim every week or wait longer?
  • Tips on watering, is every two days ok?
  • Is the fertilizer ok? If not, what else and how often?
Thanks, Alex

If it is an outdoor 名媛直播 you should place it outside. Watering only if the top of the soil feels slightly dry, push your fingertip 1cm in the soil and it should be dampish.

Completely correct, of course,.

Adding to it, study up on what to do in the spring repotting it, how to fertilize, etc. There is a huge amount of basic information here on the Empire.

Thanks for the responses so far! I had looked at www.bonsaiempire.com/tree-species/serissa 5 weeks ago within minutes of returning home with the bonsai, and I actually did the finger in the soil method in the days following that. However, my subjective take on dry and moist seemed to be on the dryer side, and I mistook the advice “It must never dry out completely” as an indication that somewhat dry is ok. I’ve now seen the tree flourish with more water than I initially used.
I also saw the description to take the tree outside for temperatures > 50 F, inside otherwise. I wonder if anyone has success with having a Serissa indoor all the time.

Whatever tree you try, inside will always be a problem if you do not adjust you living room's climate to mimic the environment of the trees normal habitat. Which means in most cases a humidity of 70-80+, wind, .... which means that you cant live in your living room anymore.
Stick to trees native to where you live, keep them outside where they belong and you will have no problems
