Help! My Chinese Elm looks dead. was created by Ncane

I bought a chinese elm for my husband on April 16 from bonsai outlet. They had great reviews and a lot of knowledge on 名媛直播's. I chose a chinese elm because I have read that chinese elm's are great for beginners and very forgiving trees. This tree began to look sickly after a week of owning it. I follow the instructions given, water but let soil dry out in-between waterings and plenty of sunlight. I have been in contact with someone at 名媛直播 outlet but they keep telling me it takes time for the tree to come back to life. At this point I am lost. I have lots of plants in my house ranging from orchids to cacti, bromeliads and philodendrons. They all thrive. I don't know or understand what went wrong with this bonsai but can someone please help me figure it out. Is it dead? Is it dormant? Can it be revived?

Thank you,
N

It is hard to see from those photos. But I think I can see just a few green buds on it. So even if it looks like a lost tree I think that there may be a slight chanse for recovery. Put it outside and water more than you have done previously......and hope.

This tree is dead. Probably watered too little. Did you let the soil dry out completely?

Inside does not help. But an elm dont die from beeing inside for 6 weeks, that takes longer and normally involves at least one winter inside. I agree with lb, for such a fast decline, the root cause is most likelly lack of water.

I literally had it for one week before it started to look this way. I watered it when I recieved it. But I think the shipment didn't allow it to breath and the fact that it sat in a hot UPS truck, in a box full of packing peanuts didn't help. I watered it every two days. Let the soil dry in between. Even bought the humidity tray for the pot to sit on top of.

If it was green when you received it, it was not the UPS truck. The heat stroke effect is immediate.

sad. :( Well they are sending me a new tree. I guess I'll water in every other day??? Can anyone suggest the best methods for watering and light? Should it be in indoors or outdoors? I live in FL so the sun is scorching hot. I know I should not put it in direct outdoor sunlight. But inside I was putting the tree by a sunny window. The temp here is 89+ every single day now and it is very humid. My house is kept at 76 with humidity around 44%. Should I be spraying the tree with water every so often? Any help is welcome! Thanks again!

I would put it outside in some partial shade with water every morning. Depending on the soil I might water it again in the afternoon, if the soil gets dry.

Misting is pretty much a waste of time. Pour water with a spray attachment until water pours out of the bottom of the pot.
