Hi everyone, im new here.
So ive been "tinkering" around with plants for the past year or two on my balcony, so i am restricted to pots. Ive transplanted two oaks last year in hopes of making some bonsai, and they both died, about 2 months ago i transplanted another two oaks, one still had an acord attatched to it, and that one seems dead, im keeping it for a while longer in hopes of ressurection, and the other one is 25ish cm tall and seems quite dead, but a week or two ago, i noticed another sprout sprouting from the roots. The new sproutling is still a bud, no taller than 3-4cm, and it seemed quite healthy, until about a week ago, when the tips of the leaves; or the tip of the bud, started turning black, i dont know why this is the case, and im trying to save it. It also started hardening, i think its withering.
When i noticed the leaves of the 25cm tall stalk are turning yellow, i put the (5 liter) pot into a shallow container with some water, in hopes of revitilising the plant. The big stalk doesnt seem to be recovering, however the small bud sprouted about a week after.
Im looking for tips and help. Im having other issues aswell, but this one is currently of greatest priority.
Ps: this may be of some importance: the oakling is a sessile oak, and was dug up from a local-ish forrest, and i live in Zagreb, Croatia, where the weather is quite unpredictable, there tend to be hot dry days, as well as wet and cold ones in the same week (25°C ; 10°C)
also i keep the recently transplanted plants in the shadow, out of direct sunlight, this may also be of some importance

Saplings in 5 liter pots and left to soak in water sounds like overwatering to me.
