Hi everyone. Im very New to bonsai. And plants in general. So this might be common klowledge but please bear with me. I got My zelkova parvifolia about a week and a half ago and it has been great until a few days ago when i noticed that some of the leaves were turning yellow. And some of Them were falling off. Even some of the green ones Are falling off if i touch the plant. The yellow leaves have small green spots in Them. I have been watering it every time spil felt dry and it have been in the sun. Im not sure if its a normal Thing where the tree is just getting used to its New place or if there is somthing wrong with the tree pr the way i take care of it. All help is appreciated. And feel free to ask Any questions if i missed Any details. Thank you in advance. I Will attach images also

Just a guess.... it is a ulmus parvifolia and it is kept indoors.

Fair enough. I was told that i would do just fine as a house plant. But if that isnt the case i will move it outside!

Yes. If you are in the northern hemisphere....put it outside now. But be careful. First shaded position and gradually get it used to full sun

It looks to me exactly like my elm last year that had an issue with drainage and developed root rot.

Check for drainage, root bound roots, non-draining soil, etc.

Elms are decidious trees and will need to shange leafs every year to stay in full health. That is normally done in the beginning of the cold dormancy. I have never kept trees indoors without dormancy. But the yellow leafs looks like my trees in authum and there seems to be healthy new growth. I am not sure there are any major problem here. But the tree will need to stay outside for good health in the long run. Now is the wrong time for repotting.

This is NOT normal shedding of leaves.

As indicated above: Root issues. Too wet and/or dried out followed by too wet.

Placing it outside will help a lot. A repot in a more tree-friendly substrate could help too.

How do you water the plant? If you are watering by submerging the rootball in water, stop doing this. It compacts & overloads the substrate with water. Water from above, generously so that water drainds through the drainage holes at the bottom of the pot.
