Help identify & tell me what I'm doing wrong! was created by salriina

Hey all,
My fiancé gave me a Bonzai end of last year that has been doing ok...
Really no growth or changes. Since spring time is here I thought to myself,
"I'm going to get a bigger pot for it, change the soil, & get this thing going!"
Now I'm afraid I'm killing it.
Can't tell if I'm overwatering or underwatering.
Everywhere I read says 90%+ of Bonzai's die from underwatering so now I'm watering it every other day but the water drains quickly so there's no way it's rotting.
Please help me identify & give me advice!
Thanks in advance!!!

Bad news. This tree is death. Died at least a couple of months ago.
Time to put a new tree in that pot.
Did you keep it indoors the first week when you got it?
Did you wash out all the soil before potting it up? Because this species don't like that.

It's been indoors for a few months. Live in NY and got it in October. This month is the first month I've been putting it outdoors.
I didn't remove all of its original soil. I removed what was loose but didn't want to damage the roots so I was afraid to take too much off. Now it's in the small pot with the soil I took a picture of

What you can do is, put the juniper always outdoors. And only bring in it for a few hours, when you have visitors to show of the tree, but aftwards put it back outside.
The repotting you did good, by only removing some of the soil. For optimising your next repot, try to repot at the moment when you see the juniper activly growing in spring. Also try to avoid the use of the bigger substrate rocks. Use the smaller particals like 3milimeter , the size should be around 2 mm - 4 mm, no large pieces, no fine pieces.
Hope you find a new juniper at the nurcery soon. So that you can continue your bonsai journey.
