Hi all. I am growing my first bonsai -a dwarf schefflera. I have it in a terrarium with a new cutting (green trunk) to improve humidity as I live in Colorado. Saw this fungi (I believe)

and wondering if I should clear it out...I.e. will it harm the tree or propagate uncontrollably? Any help you can provide would be appreciated!

....that is a very helpfull answer...

When you place plants in a humid, warm environment everything grows extremely well, including fungi. Not much you can do about it I’m afraid. That’s the reason I don’t keep trees inside: it is an unnatural environment for them. Making the environment suited for them places you for other problems like you are experiencing. Just go for native trees, place them outside and enjoy them where they belong and thrive.

I dont grow trees in terrarium, but other stuff. But schefflera is not a tree anyway. And your plant is not a bonsai. Besides that.....

To combat fungi in terrarium I keep springtails in the enclosures and also cultivate them in a small box to allways have the option to add a boost if needed.

What is also important in terrarium which people often forget is air mowement and ventilation. The plants need wind in order to transport co2 and o. But in terrarium you also need to exchange the air on regular basis as co2 is consumed over time otherwice. Fungi is growing better in stagnant air than mowing air.

Schefflera is a very tollerant plant which can live in most conditions as long as it is above freezing which will kill them. As soon as temperature is above 10 they start growing. I am not convinced terrarium is necessary for this plant and think that outside in a shaded position will be better for your plant.
