Is my bonsai dead? was created by HM

I bought my carmona bonsai in early spring in 2019. At the time, I didn't realise that it was in a poor condition; it had an aphid infestation. When I got it home, the leaves started to yellow and fall. But I looked after it, used a pesticide and regularly showered it to remove the aphids. It thrived for a over year and flowered twice!

Last year, I went away during the summer for 3 days and must have forgotten to water it before I left. The leaves were crispy dry when I returned, but but still green. I watered as needed and misted for 3-4 weeks after, but there was no sign of improvement so I removed all the leaves in an attempt to reserve the plant's energy. Ever since then, I've been watering and misting the branches in the hope that it will sprout new leaves this spring. In March, I repotted the plant in a well draining soil mix (as it was in standard soil mix) and a smaller pot (as the other was way too big). I am continuing to water it when the soil dries and mist daily. But there is still no sign of new leaf growth, although it appears to still be green under the bark (see photo attachments). I used a liquid fertiliser (bonsai grow) once, more than a month after repotting and I don't intend to use it again unless there is visible growth.

Should I keep going, or is it dead?

Unfortunately, it does sound like it is dead. Have you checked the bark again recently? It takes a while for it to stop being green underneath even after it has died. I would continue watering it just on the off chance that it might have survived, but I would have expected some buds to have shown by now.

Oh, and to attach photos, you have to remember to INSERT them before posting. I always forget to do that too.

There is absolutely no chance this is alive. As for scratching the bark.. Just stop doing this. It does NOT tell you much and is certainly not helping the tree.
