Hi everyone!
So I need your help. I'm new to the hobby of bonsai trees. I'll be buying various tree seeds next week and I'm aware of the process of scarification and stratification. What I want to know is, during stratification, when you put the seeds in peat soil in a sealed bag in the fridge for a period of time, do you ventilate the bag by putting holes in it?
Thanks in advance. Any advice for this process are welcome. I've done plenty of research on this but I was a bit unsure about the plastic bag whether it needed ventilation or not.

Hi Cheryl,
Keep in mind that you sow seeds normally at a time that germination happens in early spring. That way you can most easily grow them.
I NEVER use plastic bags. I do not see the benefit and I know of a lot of people having rotting seeds. I sow seeds in trays, protect them from mice & continuous rain and keep them outside for winter. In spring germination when Nature intended it to happen.
Of course, this does not work for tropical species in a temperate climate.
