I was gifted a juniper bonsai tree today. It was from a big box store. This is my first bonsai tree, I have been wanting one for a long time. I have been told to repot it as soon as possible because big box stores don't use the right dirt, but also to only repot in May. Should I leave it in this pot with this dirt until next May or repot it now?

Hello and welcome to the empire.
What you have there is not a bonsai. It is a juniper cutting that can be a bonsai in 5-10 years with the right care and design work.
Repotting is seldom urgent. The tree has grown in that soil in production and can grow in that soil with you. If the pot has drainage holes I would wait to repot until late winter or early spring. If it does not have drainage holes, I would slip pot into a bigger pot with drainage holes. No root work at all, just put in bigger pot with more soil.
