Hello!
Last year, I picked up some "helicopter seeds" on one of my walks. I forgot all about the seeds. This year, when planting sunflowers from last year's batch of sunflower seeds, I accidentally planted a helicopter seed, too. I must have packed it away with the sunflower seeds without realising. It has since grown into a small seedling ... with very big leaves!
I have no idea what type of tree this is, or if it would make for a good bonsai at all. The most common types of tree here are elm, oak and ash. I have attached photos. Has anyone seen a seedling like this?

"Helicopter seeds" sounds like maple seeds to me.

If I were to guess I would say it's a maple. The leaves are shaped as such.

It is a maple. The picture does not show enough of the leaves to know which species, which might remain a question untill it grows up a little. Some maples are really good for bonsai (e.g. field maple, A campestre). Others less so.

Could it be a sycamore? We have a lot of those.

Certainly not a sycamore (platanus spp). It is 99% certain a maple.

Love your humility, you know it's a maple but you still say 99%

Thank you! I have some more photos of the leaves if it helps to identify it? It has two more leaves growing now.

It is only a few weeks old. I have been gradually weathering it outside, with it being placed outside permanently HOPEFULLY from next week, depending on the weather.
