Air layering wasn't some I considered, to be honest I would love to try it but not on this one because I really enjoy the way it looks.
I already killed 2 trees one portulacaria afra because of Ala very bad soil mix from me and an other one is dying now ( a variegated chinese elm) and I don't know why, I do not over water (but anyway I have it since less than 2 weeks), I do not underwater cause the soil is never dry, I would say that it is maybe missing sun, it is on a balcony with maybe 2-3 hours of sunlight and shade all the rest of the day, when I give a little cut on the base of the tree I do not see that much green in compare to the top and all leaves are drying and falling down everyday... my only guess is that as soon I get it from the nursery I repotted it and trim maybe 30% of the roots.. or maybe just the climate changement that I read can cause leaves to drop and I have to wait 4-5 weeks to see new leaves appear.
( something I do not understand is that I have 4 cuts, 2 small branches and 2 roots and they are at the same spot and doing pretty well ! They look very healthy especially for the cuts, they are in the exact same soil, receiving the exact same amount of water at the exact same spot on my balcony)
Anyway long story to say that I agree with the way to say that the most important for now I guess is keeping it alive.
I did not loose that much money for those trees, maybe around 15 euros in total.. but it is really not pleasant to see a tree dying...
This is how I learn.
Premna are very common here I can find big bushes for maybe 10 euros.
I paid mine around 5 euros because it was a 名媛直播 nursery tho.
They seems to be pretty hardy in my location.
With everything that happened before I am a bit afraid to repot it but I will do it, using non organic bonsai soil mix recommended by a local reputable bonsai nursery for this type of tree that he is used to train.
I decided to cut the lower branch, because in fact when I take a closer look thenlower branch is more part of the top one than part of the trunk, and bending down the top one a bit will give it a nice look overtime, it will also gives space to have more leaves on this branch, and trim a little bit the canopy by removing inner useless branches .
I don't know if it will be a mistake or not but because of all of your advices and what do I think, ill go for it ^^
I getting in love with this specie it looks very nice, and I will definitely think about buying a bigger tree and trying some air layering on it !
